If you ever have lisened to a Dj Smallz mixtape then you know there is nothing but hot exclusiv sound from the South with nice cuts and blends. But thats not enough Dj Smallz does much more then bringing you the best Mixtape series the south may have. He also is the Ceo of Southern Smoke Promo who always let you know who is hot in the south! M-P: I heard that you were born overseas? Where do you have your roots at and at what age you moved to Flordia? DJ SmalIz: I was born overseas in Japan on a Navy Base because my father was stationed there at the time... I moved around after i was born quite a bit but moved to Florida when i was real young and lived here ever since. M-P: Which age did you start deejaying? DJ SmalIz: I started deejaying back in middle school when i copped my first turntables... I used to rock the cheap Numark tables, but when i saved up my money in high school, instead of spending money on a car which a lot of kids did, i spent all my money on a top of the line DJ set.... it was a gamble, but it paid off... M-P: Which was the frist club you spined you records at? DJ SmalIz: i spun at several local clubs around my area, nothin too fancy... i was in high school at the time and didnt even have a car to travel to other cities for gigs... M-P: How it comes you became a Pro DJ ? Who influcend you most? Do you do other Music DJ SmalIz: I've always been into Southern Hip Hop and Southern Music, but i can also spin east coast hip hop and R&B as well. I have a crazy R&B set for the ladies (my secret weapon)... M-P: What was your most improtant projects in past years and which project brought you the breakthrew? DJ SmalIz: The Southern Smoke collection is by far the most important project ive been focusing on the last couple of months.... ive had some crazy celebrity hosts and broke a lot of major Xclusives... M-P: Who is the most important partner you have worked with? DJ SmalIz: All my projects are important! (Laughing). I've worked with a lot of artists from Uncle Luke to Pastor Troy and the DSGB M-P: Okay lets change the topic and talk a bit about Your advertising and marketing company Southern Smoke promo ! M-P: What was the key idear for the southern promo company? Your Mixtapes? DJ SmalIz: Southern Smoke Promo is a marketing and advertising company i organized that runs out of two locations (Tampa and Miami, FL). My company focuses on marketing and advertising major and independent comanies and products in the southern urban market... we have a clientele of about 40 major and independent record labels and do product placement for 20 other companies (not affiliated in the music industry) like All Access DVD Magazine and Badseed Clothing. As far as my mixtapes, i do creative intros, and i mix a lot of the exclusives on the tracklist without ANY talking... a lot of east coast djs do not mix and talk throughout the whole song and a lot of people dont like that.... i always try to do something different or be the first to try something... a lot of other djs copy each other.... M-P: How many new acts “new artists’’ did you promote over it and how you get in touch with them? DJ SmalIz: I definitely support the underground southern scene through my street marketing and mixtapes.... 2 artists, Pitbull (TVT Records) and Attitude (Beat Club) just signed major contracts with labels. I helped break their records and freestyles before they signed. Other underground artists i like to work with are Chamillionaire, Paul Wall, Roam, Eve'nin Ridahz, Zay, and A-Dam-Shame. These artists got crazy talent, and if i was a record label, i'd sign 'em all.... M-P: Did you worked with arist from overseas? If not could you imagine to work with artist from europe or germany if they got skillz? DJ SmalIz: Not yet, but i definitely would like to as long as they got skillz and confidence... i think it would be interesting.... M-P: What do you think makes a good rapper/ performer? DJ Smallz: A rapper definitely has to have skillz and confidence in what he's doing. He has to be able to handle criticizm and has to grind 110%. I look for all these aspects before i put an artist on my tapes because i represent quality music... M-P: Who was the most banging new artist you have promoted? DJ SmalIz: Chamillionaire and Paul Wall... these cats are from Houston, Texas and have been talkin and gaining interest from major record labels for a minute.... M-P: And who can we aspect in the future, to get the club crunk? DJ SmalIz: Texas will be the next capitol for southern music like it used to be 10 years ago when Scarface, UGK, and others came out... look out for Chamillioniare, Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Mike Jones and more..... M-P: How was it to work with Pastor Troy and Uncle Luke? DJ SmalIz: It was crazy... these cats are very hard to get at in the studio... we made it pop tho, and murdered the streets with their new music.... M-P: Can we aspect another exclusiv top formation like this on your Mixtapes? DJ SmalIz: Im bringing back bigger hosts and another legend from the South thats never hosted a mixtape before and wont ever again... I definitely got some more surprises for everyone.... M-P: What’s about the top secret project you working on, Can you give us some little info on that? DJ SmalIz: Awwwwww man.... i'll have the streets buzzing for a long time with this one.... ill definitely let you know first when the time is right.... M-P: What other projects/ Mixtapes you working on? DJ SmalIz: I'm working on a project with Slip-N-Slide Records and Lil' Flip... im also working on another project with Pastor Troy.... M-P: Okay lets talk about Down-South Music generally. M-P: Which Artist - City influenced Dirty South music most? DJ SmalIz: Texas and Miami did it first -- Texas had Scarface, UGK, and 8Ball & MJG...and Miami had the bass bouncing music with 2 Live Crew... then New Orleans with No Limit and Cash Money... now Atlanta with Lil Jon and the Ying Yang Twins M-P: You think Artist like Luke or Dj Smurf , Lil Jon , Raheem, Splack Pack are the pioneers of what we call Crunk Music today? DJ SmalIz: Of course, because crunk music is takes a little a bit of the screwed music influence from texas mixed with the old school bass music from Miami M-P: Okay that it for right now, do you want to tell the german/europe liseners something special or add some info we have to be looking for? DJ SmalIz: I wanna thank Muzik-Patnaz for their strong support and also my Management, Friends, and Family... all the Artists and Record Labels for showin their strong support and giving me all the tools to do what i do best - give the streets quality music....
